1. World Leprosy Day 2022 2. Global Fundraising Campaign 3. New Quarterly Newsletter 4. TLM Consent Processes
World Leprosy Day is taking place on Sunday 30 January this year. A global messaging resource has been developed by GPZL, in collaboration with ILEP Communicators and persons affected by leprosy, to raise awareness.
This year, the main theme is 'United for Dignity' and there are three key messages:
Together we can lift up every voice and honour the experiences of people who have experienced leprosy.
People who experience leprosy face mental wellbeing challenges due to stigma, discrimination, and isolation.
People who experience leprosy have the right to a dignified life free from disease-related stigma and discrimination.
Any TLM Member would be very welcome to use this toolkit, although there is no obligation to do so.
If you are communicating online over World Leprosy Day, please do be sure to use #WorldLeprosyDay
Please note, World NTD Day is also on 30 January.
Please contact Tim Burton if you have any questions,
TLM's first Global Fundraising Campaign starts this month, to coincide with World Leprosy Day.
There was a short briefing on the campaign in the last IO Quarterly Newsletter.
In January, several TLM Members are starting the campaign, while others will start later in the year.
Resources for the campaign are now available on ResourceSpace. If you have any questions, please contact Jo-Anne Thomson.
The International Office is starting a new Quarterly Newsletter in 2022.
The new newsletter, entitled 'The Leprosy News', is aimed at an external audience of individuals who work within the leprosy and NTD sector. The newsletter will equip them with in-depth looks at best practice, opinions from within the sector, and the latest news and developments.
This target audience includes staff at other NGOs, as well as people working for National Leprosy Control Programmes, the WHO, and within the wider NTD sector.
If you know anyone within these audiences, please do share the sign up link with them.
This newsletter is an opportunity to share knowledge and learning, work in partnership, and grow capacity within the sector.
If you are signed up to the IO's monthly Fellowship newsletter, then you will automatically receive The Leprosy News in your inbox once a quarter.
If you have any questions, please contact Tim Burton.
The IO has been working in collaboration with Members over the last 18 months to develop Informed Consent Practices that can be used by all TLM Members when collecting consent to use stories and images.
The development sector has been increasing standards in this area for some time and major donors, including government partners, are expecting high standards of consent capturing. As well as these expectations, we have a duty to safeguard the people we are collecting stories from, and these practices aim to do just that.
A new consent form has been jointly developed by fundraising, communications, safeguarding, and programmes teams and has been piloted by several TLM Members, both large and small.
After an extensive development process, the form has now been finalised and has been translated into 14 different languages.
We will look to train teams across the Fellowship in our new informed consent processes in the first part of 2022 and by the second half of 2022, this will be the global standard. Contact Jo-Anne with questions.
