Meet Joy Fleming
Our New National Director would love to meet you
One Bible verse that speaks powerfully to me is “…what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8 NIV).I’ve always been impressed by how TLM embodies this calling by reaching out with Christ’s compassion to persons and communities affected by leprosy across the world - preventing and relieving suffering, restoring dignity and well-being, doing much needed research and advocating for justice.
I’m very conscious I am one who is blessed. I grew up in a strong, loving Christian family. My interest in mission and in scientific research led me to various research roles in East Asia, the last of which was about tuberculosis. Through that, God deepened my compassion for people affected by infectious diseases like TB and leprosy… and also put the significance of TLM’s work on my heart. I was able to see TLM’s life-changing work first-hand when I joined the TLM GB Programmes team in 2022. I was touched and challenged when I visited partners and projects, seeing something of the suffering, and yet the dignity, of persons affected by leprosy, and the amazing compassion and love of TLM staff, often working in very difficult circumstances.
I feel honoured and challenged as I take up the role of TLMNI National Director. My prayer is that together we will be able to greatly increase awareness of leprosy and prayer support in N. Ireland, and to channel more much-neededresources towards realising TLM’s vision of “Leprosy defeated, Lives transformed”. We can’t do this without you, our generous supporters! I’m looking forward to meeting you - do get in touch with the office if you’d like to hear more about how God is using your kindness and generosity to bless persons and communities affected by leprosy across the globe.
Every blessing,
Joy
